Setting Out
Friends, today I want to share a special journey with you. As a travel blogger who frequently travels around the world, I recently experienced an unforgettable high-speed rail trip from Beijing to Zhangjiakou, along the main transportation artery of the 2022 Winter Olympics, experiencing this railway line that carries a century of memories.
Dawn Breaks
Beijing North Station, 6 AM. I stand in the bustling waiting hall, watching hurried passengers around me. Did you know? Over a hundred years ago, this was the starting point established by the Qing government for the Beijing-Zhangjiakou railway. Back then, trains took a full 12 hours to reach Zhangjiakou, while now, the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed rail takes only 47 minutes.
Embarking on the Journey
As I sit in the comfortable high-speed rail seat, the train slowly starts moving. Through the window, Beijing's urban landscape gradually fades away, replaced by rolling mountains. You must be curious why this railway line is so important? Let me tell you a little-known story.
Historical Imprint
In 1909, Zhan Tianyou led the construction of China's first independently designed and built railway. The engineering challenges were world-class at the time. Can you imagine? Without modern mechanical equipment, workers had to tunnel through mountains and build bridges in treacherous terrain. Looking back now, it was nothing short of a miracle.
Scenery Along the Way
As the train passes beneath the Badaling Great Wall, I'm struck by the scenery before me. Amidst the mountains, the ancient wall winds like a giant dragon. This section is known as the "world's most beautiful high-speed rail line," and it truly lives up to its name. Every autumn, the red leaves cover the mountains, attracting countless photographers.
Technology's Light
Speaking of this high-speed rail line's technological content, it's truly amazing. The train can reach a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour, making it the world's first smart high-speed railway in a cold region capable of such speeds. Did you know? There are over 70 intelligent systems along the line, and even the window glass uses special nano-coating technology that automatically adjusts transparency.
Culinary Journey
Along the way, I particularly observed the dining services on the train. Though the journey is brief, the high-speed rail dining car offers distinctive cuisine. You must try Zhangjiakou's specialty youmian noodles and the famous "frontier" lamb dishes. By the way, you can now pre-order local specialties through the APP and pick them up at the station, which is very convenient.
Cultural Fusion
As the train continues northward, you'll notice the cultural atmosphere growing stronger along the line. From Beijing's imperial culture to Huailai's vineyards, to Zhangjiakou's frontier flavor, the 47-minute journey connects such rich cultural landscapes. This reminds me of an interesting phenomenon: many young people now take this high-speed rail to Zhangjiakou for weekend skiing, something unimaginable in the past.
Promising Future
Speaking of development prospects, Zhangjiakou's rural tourism has bright prospects. Statistics show that in 2024, rural tourism reception in the Zhangjiakou area is expected to exceed 30 million visits, with tourism revenue potentially reaching 28 billion yuan. These numbers reflect people's pursuit of high-quality life and show how technological development has profoundly transformed traditional tourism.
Warm Farewell
The 47-minute journey is coming to an end as we arrive at Zhangjiakou Station. Stepping onto the platform, fresh mountain breeze greets me. This journey has made me deeply realize that a railway line is not just a transportation tool connecting two places, but a bond linking history with modernity, tradition with innovation.
If you're thinking about taking a spontaneous trip, consider this Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed rail line. Here, you can experience a century of Chinese railway history, appreciate the natural and cultural beauty along the way, taste unique local cuisine, and enjoy the convenience brought by modern technology. Isn't this exactly the kind of travel experience our generation yearns for?
